While the Left is preoccupied with its green deals and engrossed in its relentless attack on fossil fuel companies, President Donald Trump has been hard at work ensuring fresh air, clean water and a safe future for millions nationwide.
In an article recent articles published online, White House Council on Environmental Quality chair Mary Neumayr detailed Trump’s environmental policies that the Left has thus far maligned, if not outright dismissed.
Trump might not be the “great environmentalist” for the Left, she wrote, but millions across the United States would beg to differ. For far too long, the Left has pursued impractical policies that put jobs and businesses on the line, as well as economic growth.
In contrast, Trump has sought to address pressing environmental concerns without placing an undue burden on families and harming small and big businesses alike that contribute to economic growth. For Trump, actions speak louder than words, and his support for conservation thus far proves that.
Since he took office in 2017, Trump has signed into law several acts that demonstrate his administration’s commitment to conservation and sustainable environmental progress. Listed below are three of them, as detailed in the article.
The John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act
In 2018, Trump signed into law the single most important and wide-reaching public lands legislation package since the 1970s: the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act.
Considered a monumental achievement at the time of its signing, the new law authorized and funded efforts to protect public lands, expand parks, create new national heritage sites and wilderness areas and rehabilitate natural habitats for wild animals on private land – all on a national scale.
Also, the new law also opened all federal lands to hunting and fishing unless designated otherwise. This was to help encourage hunters and anglers to continue with their activities without facing undue criticism and while still protecting conservation areas.
The Great American Outdoors Act
In his latest push towards conservation, Trump signed into law the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) in August. The GAOA guarantees an annual $900 million USD for the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
Moreover, the GAOA provides nearly $10 billion for long-delayed maintenance, repair and upgrade projects for national parks.
Neumayr said that the GAOA is considered the most significant conservation funding legislation in American history. Meanwhile, Trump has said that in restoring or upgrading national parks, people will be more inclined to use their parks and visit wildlife refuges and other historic sites nationwide.
Save Our Seas Act
In 2018, Trump also signed into law the Save Our Seas Act, which aims to reduce domestic marine debris through intensive research, prevention and reduction.
To this end, the legislation provides annual funding of $10 million for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Marine Debris Program until 2022.
In January of this year, the Senate passed the Save Our Seas 2.0 Act. This revamped legislation seeks to improve both domestic and international waste management efforts.
Ocean Conservancy, a nonprofit environmental group based in Washington, D.C., had expressed strong support for this latest act.
“We are also pleased that the bill prioritizes research initiatives to better understand the problem of ocean plastic and what interventions would be most effective,” said the group in a statement.
Trump’s push for a cleaner and safer environment does not end at signing acts into laws.
The president has also been emphasizing proper forest management as the most effective strategy of preventing forest fires. This is even as California Gov. Gavin Newsom harps on about the role of climate change in causing the most devastating fire season that the Golden State state has experienced to date.
Trump has also invested over $38 billion in clean water infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable water supplies for all. (Related: Michigan gets $100 Million grant from Trump’s EPA to fix Flint water system.)
Taken together, these efforts show that Trump has been at the forefront of conservation and sustainable environmental progress since his inauguration. It is his leadership that has resulted in a string of accomplishments for the benefit of future generations.
